An adapter helps connect two components with incompatible port interfaces by mapping between the two interfaces. Use the Adapter block to implement an adapter. Open the Interface Adapter dialog box by double-clicking an Adapter block on the connection between the ports. In communications, a device that connects the computer or terminal to a network.

Given an input, an adapter alters it in order to provide a compatible connection between the components of a system. Both software and hardware adapters are used in many different devices such as mobile phones, personal computers, servers and telecommunications networks for a wide range of purposes.

An “Adapter” is a piece of hardware. A “network interface” is a software construct. Usually, there is one network interface per adapter. But there may be network interfaces which are not from an adapter. This Peripheral Interface Adapter board allows for AND IP devices to interface with analog devices and peripherals such as electronic locks, strobes, or sensors over the network.
