FANUC produces three series of spindle motors. Our BETA i-B Series spindle motors offer a significant performance-to-cost ratio, making them ideal for controlling costs. Our ALPHA i-B Series spindle motors offer enhanced torque and power to handle heavier cutting and provide shorter acceleration and deceleration times. FANUC’s servo motors feature high reliability, easy maintenance and exceptional electrical efficiency. Our servo motors are designed and manufactured with a focus on the ultimate in performance, reliability and efficiency.

Linear motors operate with an AC power supply and servo controller, which are often the same as those used for rotary servo motors. The linear motor primary part is connected to the power supply to produce a magnet field. By changing the current phase in the coils, the polarity of each coil is changed. Today, linear motors typically reach speeds of 5 m/s, with high accelerations of 5 g in practice. Theoretically, motors can reach over 20 g with 40 m/s velocity.

The main advantage of linear motors is to provide linear motion without any mechanical system because air is the transmission medium, therefore linear motors are essentially frictionless drives, providing theoretically unlimited service life. A linear dc motor, like a rotating dc motor, generates mechanical force by the interaction of current in conductors and magnetic flux provided by permanent rare-earth magnets. It is constructed of a stator assembly and a slider.
