E-stop (emergency stop) is a simple, highly visible button designed to shut down operations on heavy and/or dangerous equipment. Used to save lives in industrial operations, E-stops shut down equipment immediately. Emergency stop buttons essentially break an electrical circuit to prevent power from passing through. This causes the machinery to stop functioning immediately. An emergency stop button, also known as an E-Stop, is a fail-safe control switch that provides safety both for the machinery and for the person using the machinery. The purpose of the emergency push button is to stop the machinery quickly when there is a risk of injury or the workflow requires stopping. An Emergency Stop can include, but are not limited to, devices such as pull cord operated switches, foot operated switches without a mechanical guard and, most common, push button operated switches. Similar to any safety device, an Emergency Stop must fulfill specific standard requirements.

The emergency stop function is a complementary protective measure which is intended to be used in conjunction with other safeguarding measures and protective devices to sufficiently reduce risk. Regular stop is normal procedure as stated above. It allows (like a start) to operate machine. Emergency stop bears defensive role – it should protect people from injury and equipment from breaking. Whilst there isn’t a set speed, emergency stops are typically conducted on roads with a speed limit of 30mph. Be aware, however, that there’s nothing stopping an examiner from conducting it on roads with a higher speed if the conditions allow it. a button or switch that operates any of various safety devices, for use in an emergency.

The electrical symbol for the emergency stop is a mushroom on the pole (arc on a straight line).A kill switch, also known more formally as an emergency brake, emergency stop (E-stop), emergency off (EMO), or emergency power off (EPO), is a safety mechanism used to shut off machinery in an emergency, when it cannot be shut down in the usual manner.
