An MCB is an automatically operated electrical switch. Miniature circuit breakers are intended to prevent damage to an electrical circuit as a result of excess current. They are designed to trip during an overload or short circuit to protect against electrical faults and equipment failure. MCB has several advantages over fuse: MCB is more sensitive to current than fuse. It detects any abnormality in the current flow and automatically switches off the electrical circuit. In case of MCB, the faulty zone of electrical circuit can be easily identified. Miniature circuit breaker – MCB is a thermo-magnetic device, meaning that it has two methods of circuit interruption. A thermal mechanism, usually a bi-metallic strip, provides protection against moderate overcurrent. The heating action of the current causes the bi-metallic strip to curve and break circuit contact.
When the current overflow occurs through MCB – Miniature Circuit Breaker, the bimetallic strip gets heated and deflects by bending. The deflection of the bi-metallic strip releases a latch. The latch causes the MCB to turn off by stopping the current flow in the circuit. Miniature circuit breakers are used to protect houses from overload. They are a lot more dependable and secure than a fuse due to their ability to address a big amount of power. Miniature circuit breakers are used to safeguard homes from overload. Due to their capacity to handle large amounts of electricity, they are much reliable and safer than a fuse. One of the greatest advantages of an MCB is that it ensures equal distribution of electrical energy across all the devices.
The basic structure of Miniature circuit breakers includes Shell, in-out wiring junction, main contact point, electromagnetic coil, bimetal plate heat components, arc-extinguishing chamber, open-close switch mechanism, open-close switch status indication, installation mechanism, etc. MCB is an electro-mechanical device which protects the electrical circuit in case of overload and short circuit faults. MCB detects the fault condition and automatically switch off to interrupt the circuit current and it can be manually switched ON after removing the fault.
