Design proposals tailored for the gear dimensions and shapes Surface treatment tailored to skiving processing Select the optimum tool materials The skiving cutter can be associated to a process with a multi thread gear hob; by extremizing the number of threads of the gear hob, so that each principle corresponds to a cutting tooth, you will obtain a skiving tool.

The power skiving method is a combination of gear hobbing and shaping by continuous hobbing with axial feed. In theory, the method is not new. However, it is still considered a high-performance process because it allows for high cutting speeds, and significantly more teeth are engaged per time. Raw edge, underlay and folding skiving are three types used in upper making. Manual skiving is normally done for the sampling and machine skiving is preferred during production. Different types of pressure foots are used during machine skiving are available in different sizes and shapes.

One military slang word from the First World War which has become a core part of modern colloquial English in the UK is skive, meaning ‘to avoid work’. Our first quotation at present is from a 1919 magazine article, which lists ‘some of the most universal and expressive Army terms’: ‘To skive’, to dodge a fatigue.
