ZT Forming Tap is compatible with a wide range of work materials. Forming taps involves the displacement of a material (like metal) within a hole. Additionally, forming taps usually require a larger hole because this style causes a material to thread away and into the threads of the tap.
Form taps are ideal for tapping blind holes, but can be used for any tapping application in ductile material, including steel and some stainless steels. Form taps have lubrication grooves but no cutting faces and do not cut threads or produce chips. Thread forming taps are also known as fluteless taps, form taps, roll taps or cold forming taps. They form threads by displacing material without producing chips.
Thread-forming screws can be Type AB, Type B, etc. (commonly called self-tapping screws) that create an internal thread by displacing material but typically are driven into thin sheet metal where the metal simply changes shape.
